It's been an exciting week - my first here in Taipei, and at G!
Everyone here has been extremely nice to me.
YS has taken wonderful care of me... when she wakes up in the afternoon :).
All of my new co-workers are very friendly, but I DEFINITELY need to improve 中文 listening ability. While most critical work functions occur in English - and the vast majority of e-mail - obviously daily chatter is mostly in Mandarin.
The faster I improve, the more efficiently our little team will operate.
Luckily, though, we have V & T, two other native 說英文的人... they are extremely helpful to me!
Taipei in August itself is hot & humid. But just as welcoming as I remember it. This really is quite a livable city.
The most interesting thing I saw yesterday was a dentist office.
The first thing that got my attention was these cute young girls in short little 'scrubs'. They appeared to be helping the dentist, who was operating on some poor guys teeth, so I guess they were the dental hygientists. But they looked more like actresses in a cheesy japanese soap opera.
That's when I thought... why am I even seeing this? From the street? I could, from the curb, look right into this poor guys mouth! There was no patient privacy at all! Perhaps this was part of the dentist's marketing strategy?
Strangest of all... this was at 10PM... on a Saturday!
Who gets fillings at 10PM on Saturday?
